About the exhibition
DEADBOOKS GALLERY presents I·N·T·J, a solo exhibition by Yuka Nagasawa, bringing together works made through photographic printmaking and analogue photography, including cyanotype, Van Dyke brown and silver gelatin processes.
In this exhibition, the four letters form a framework through which Nagasawa arranges her inner landscapes. While the title shares its initials with a personality type, the artist gives them a series of shifting meanings, inviting viewers to approach the works through multiple readings.
Imprint · Negative · Trace · Journal
Instant · Narrative · Transform · Journey
Illusion · Null · Timeless · Junction
Across the works, photographic images meet the physical surfaces that carry them. Layered papers, visible stitches, handwritten marks and uneven edges draw attention to how each image has been assembled. Blue and brown tones sit alongside darker photographic images, while fragments of figures, flowers and interiors appear with varying degrees of clarity.
Words enter these surfaces as another layer of the image. Short phrases are placed beside photographic fragments, opening a space between what can be seen and what can be read. The relationship between text, image and material invites close attention to details that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
The changing associations of I·N·T·J offer possible routes through the exhibition. An imprint can be read as a trace; a fragment can become part of a narrative; a journal can suggest a journey. These associations remain open, allowing viewers to find their own connections among the works.
